and that she had decided that Yuuko would be the sacrifice. Horrified, she discovered that her sister was playing the role of the god's messenger. Yuuko frantically searched the village before arriving at the school. The villagers were in a panic, which caused her father to decide to take his daughters away from the area unfortunately, Yukariko was missing. When her mother died, Yuuko noticed a change in her sister's mood, who was starting to believe the curse was real. In recent years, the shrine was lost and fell into disrepair. For hundreds of years, the Kanoe family was responsible for a shrine to a Mountain God to prevent the god from cursing people, an offering of one's "most precious thing" to Akahito-sama, the god's messenger, was required - that is, a human sacrifice. Yuuko and her sister, Yukariko, soon began overhearing whispers in the village that it was their family's fault that the illness had come. Sixty years ago, the village where Yuuko and her family lived was suffering through a terrible plague. Worthy of note is that she does not mind to have her attractive body seen by Teiichi, but becomes increasingly embarrassed if he does as much as pay a sight to her. While she seems to be quite proud of her body, often using it to tease Teiichi, she does have a fixation on her weight, and will try to hide it, even though she's very light. It is later revealed that Yuuko is starting to become attached to Teiichi, as he was the first person to interact with her after dying a long time ago. She sometimes teases Teiichi Niiya through sexual suggestions and, if Teiichi is not around, is seen roaming the school complex (often creating ghost stories as an effect). She initially owned the old uniform of Seikyou School before it changed and she has been wearing the new uniform since, but she later changed back into the old uniform after being discovered by Teiichi Niiya.Īlthough Yuuko's looks give off a sinister aura, she is actually a cheerful person.

The name Kirie means "fog, mist, haze" (霧) ( kiri) and "bay, inlet" (江) ( e).

Kirie soon became active in helping Teiichi in investigating cases involving Yuuko, although not considering herself to be a member of the Paranormal Investigation Club until much later. Unknown to Yuuko and Teiichi, Kirie encountered something more grisly than Yuuko's "true" form on her way out. Kirie also discovers that what she believed in were warped truths, and apologizes to Teiichi before leaving. She then reveals her intentions to save Teiichi from Yuuko Kanoe after seeing her "true form" and believing that no spirit will do no harm to the living.Īlthough she was successful in influencing how Teiichi sees Yuuko, Kirie's plan was foiled and her vulnerable side is exposed when she tried to explore the room where Yuuko's remains are. Kirie meets up with Teiichi Niiya to warn him about the ghost of Seikyou Academy, and she tells him of the story of "Spirited Away", which tells of a ghost who takes away the hearts of people whom it interacts with. It is unknown if Yuuko fails to acknowledge Kirie because of Kirie's own doing. She is also jealous of Yuuko Kanoe and how Teiichi Niiya treats her, she will often think about growing her hair long, which makes her look like Yuuko. This side of her is much more vulnerable than her more confident side, but she manages to gain the respect of others, including Momoe Okonogi's, nonetheless. However, her tough facade can be easily torn down when she encounters frightening things. Initially, Kirie shows a tomboyish behavior, showing off a confident attitude that is not swayed by the opinions of others. She also has an athletic physical build, although she is insecure to Yuuko's comparatively large breasts. Kirie possesses an uncanny resemblance to Yuuko Kanoe, although Kirie has her hair much shorter than Yuuko's hair.
